Saskatchewan Polytechnic has canceled all of its classes after it had reported that it was the victim of a cybersecurity incident.

In a release, Saskatchewan Polytechnic said that it is still assessing the extent of the attack with external experts and law enforcement.

"The institute is taking this matter very seriously and is working closely with industry experts to minimize the extent of the impact," the school said in its release, adding that there is no indication that any personal information has been compromised.

CBC News reported that the school canceled its online, applied and in-person classes from November 02 to 04 in response to the cyber incident.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic also confirmed in a statement that it is working with outside experts to recover its systems, prioritizing the restoration of its online learning resources.

"Sask Polytech is taking this extra time to safely restore system by system affected by the cybersecurity incident in order of priority. We are making good progress. Many systems are restored and data is being backed up," the institute said.

Although the school has yet to disclose more details about the cyberattack, insider information suggests that Saskatchewan Polytechnic was hit with a ransomware attack.

An anonymous source with Saskatchewan Polytechnic told Swift Current Online that his department head confirmed that the attack is ransomware in nature. The source also shared with the media the email he received from his boss as proof, which was verified by another anonymous source within the school.
