The International Cyber Risk Management Conference (ICRMC) has announced that a former US attorney known for handling major cybertheft cases will head this year’s keynote speech.

Former US Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania David Hickton has been invited to speak at the ICRMC, which takes places at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on April 15-16.

Hickton is the founding director of the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Cyber Law, Policy and Security. He also has secondary faculty appointments in the university as professor in the School of Law, School of Computing and Information, and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

He was nominated by former President Barack Obama to serve as US attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania on May 03, 2010, and later sworn in on August 12 that same year.

During his tenure as US attorney, Hickton brought a first-of-its-kind indictment against five Chinese military members for engaging in economic espionage against local companies and organizations in Pittsburgh. His office also took part in an operation with the FBI and other international legal authorities to shut down Dark0de – one of the largest cybercrime forums.

Hickton also helped in the creation of a dedicated section within the US Attorney’s Office that focuses on cybercrime and national security.

As part of the ICRMC program, Hickton will be interviewed by BNN Bloomberg’s Amber Kanwar following his keynote speech, a release from the conference’s organizers revealed.
