As businesses increasingly rely on digital operations, remaining protected against cyber attacks has never been more critical.

Amid such threats, forward-thinking companies included in Insurance Business Canada’s 5-Star Cyber 2023 are leading the charge by constantly innovating to protect their clients from emerging risks.

Northbridge Insurance is one of these companies, boasting a decade-long history in the cyber insurance space.

“Working with our customers to improve their risk over time is something we do on normal lines of business, and we’re trying to adopt the same principles on cyber risk,” said underwriting director Patrick Cruikshank.

Cruikshank added that Northbridge Insurance recognizes the sensitivity surrounding cyber incidents. He emphasized the importance of a timely and efficient claims response to mitigate the potential damage and anxiety associated with such attacks.

“With cyber, we understand there’s sensitivity around the timeliness of the event and the anxiety that can come with the ‘red screen of death,’” he said. “We make sure that we have a claims response that is timely, efficient, and provides access to the experts the insured might need to get their business back up and running as quickly as possible.”

Cruikshank also underscored Northbridge’s core focus of service excellence in claims handling. He said this commitment extends to all lines of business, with a strong emphasis on professionalism, precision, and transparent communication.

He highlighted the importance of providing customers with a comprehensive policy, pointing to the wide range of protections offered by the company, including first-party exposure coverage, cybercrime coverage, and third-party liability coverage.

“It’s a comprehensive policy that provides good coverage to our insureds, and all Northbridge Insurance customers have access to our cyber assistance offering,” said Cruikshank.

“It’s basically like a risk management tool that our insureds can access to get everything from free consultation advice, best practices, and incident response planning templates to assess and improve their cyber hygiene overall.”
