AXIS Capital has appointed Pranav Shroff (pictured) as head of life sciences for its North American operations.

In this role, Shroff will oversee the development of specialized insurance products tailored to the life sciences sector, with an emphasis on products liability, professional liability, and clinical trials liability.

Shroff’s duties will include shaping the underwriting strategy, fostering relationships with distribution partners in this field, and assembling a team to support the initiative.

The key hire brings a wealth of experience in underwriting and the life sciences industry. Before joining AXIS, he held the position of vice president at The Doctors Company Specialty Underwriters. His career also includes roles at Chubb, ACE, and CNA.

Shroff will be based out of New York and will report to AXIS North America head Michael McKenna.

Commenting on the appointment, McKenna said: “The launch of our life sciences offering under Pranav’s direction marks another exciting milestone in the growth story of AXIS North America. This expansion into the niche life sciences industry practice area is a natural progression of our ambitions to be the leading specialty carrier in our chosen markets.

“Pranav has the experience and leadership to build our underwriting capabilities and develop strong ties in this space with our distribution partners, thereby elevating solutions for our customers.”

The life sciences expansion in North America comes on the heels of the group’s appointment of David White as head of aviation for AXIS Global Markets effective next month.

“We are announcing a change in leadership of our aviation division – a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to Terry Wood, one of our longest-serving leaders,” Mark Gregory, global markets head at AXIS, said recently, referring to Wood who is retiring at the end of September.
