Six properties in southeastern Manitoba have been evacuated after three days of rain made two tributaries overflow, causing flooding.
Torrential rains caused runoff flooding from the Rat River, forcing four households to abandon their homes in Lonesand, MB. One of the affected households owned a ranch that raised 80 heads of cattle, but fortunately the livestock were saved during the evacuation.
The Roseau River also saw its water levels rise due to the rains. Two other properties within the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn had to be evacuated due to the water rising in the area. Flooding was so severe in the area, that at least 20 local roads were washed out by the water.
CBC News reported that, from Saturday to Monday, as much as 96 to 150 millimeters of rain fell on those parts of southeastern Manitoba. It was projected that Tuesday saw another 20 millimeters of rain.
The Water Survey of Canada reported that the Rat River started to recede Tuesday afternoon. However, the Roseau River is still being monitored by the Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre due to its higher water volume and continued flooding risk.
