Fathom, Aon's Impact Forecasting chosen to support Canadian government's flood hazard initiative

Fathom, a flood risk intelligence firm part of Swiss Re, and Aon's Impact Forecasting, a catastrophe model developer, have been granted a contract by Public Safety Canada to enhance their understanding of flood hazards in the country.

Led by Fathom, the combined team will provide the Canadian government with a flood hazard dataset to illustrate flood extents and depths across various return periods, flood-generating mechanisms, and climate change scenarios.

The partnership comes after flash flooding in Toronto affected more than 167,000 people and caused significant damage and as Quebec grapples with the flooding from the remnants of tropical storm Debby.

Public Safety Canada initiated an open procurement process to license flood hazard information for the country in response to the growing frequency of natural disasters driven by climate change
