For the seventh consecutive year, Aviva Canada will issue the Aviva Community Fund, an altruistic competition that will award $1 million to communities throughout Canada.
Beginning September 15, Canadians can submit any ideas for funding that fall within three categories: Community Resilience, Community Health and Community Developments.
One of last year’s notable winners was Trepassey, NL, which was granted $45,000 to rebuild a town community hall that was destroyed by spring flooding. The hall not only hosted numerous health and well-being initiatives, but served as a symbol of resiliency after two-thirds of the town’s population had to relocate after a fish plant closed, devastating Trepassey’s single industry.
“The Aviva Community Fund is the best competition for community development that I have ever witnessed,” said Viola Pennell, who submitted the idea. “Winning has given Trepassey a whole lot of hope.”
In order to replicate success stories such as Trepassey’s, Aviva Canada has amended the rules to make it easier to secure funding, reducing the voting rounds to one, followed by a round of judging.
“The competition is back and better than ever,” said Debora Hendrickson, senior VP of customer & marketing. “And we have streamlined the process so it will be easier than ever for deserving projects to receive transformative funding.”
This $1 million will supplement the $5.5 million that Aviva Canada has already provided to community building projects since 2009. Any interested participants can visit the Aviva Community Fund website to learn more about the competition which runs from September 15 through October 6, 2015.
