Westland Insurance has released its community impact report for 2022, highlighting its efforts in community development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A statement from Westland president and CEO Jamie Lyons emphasized the organization’s longstanding commitment to supporting the well-being of the communities where their clients and employees reside.

“I’m proud to say that in 2022 we began an intentional shift towards being an even more purpose driven organization,” said Lyons. “By acting now, we’re not only securing the long-term sustainability of our business, but also laying the foundation for future generations to thrive in strong communities.”

The report outlined Westland’s focus on several key areas, including homelessness and food insecurity, diversity, equity, and inclusion, wellness and mental health, environmental initiatives, and local community volunteer programs.

It also highlighted several achievements from the past year:

  • Westland allocated $1 million for financial assistance to local communities throughout Canada through donations and sponsorships.
  • Employees participated in over 300 community-based initiatives.
  • Westland partnered with other insurance industry players to fund the climate resilience initiative, Nature Force.
  • Westland donated $100,000 to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
  • Westland collaborated with Adsum House in Atlantic Canada to construct 25 affordable, sustainable homes that consume at least 80% less energy than standard homes.
  • Westland implemented various initiatives to support reconciliation efforts and better understand and address the needs of indigenous clients and community members.

Cari Watson, SVP marketing & client experience at Westland, said the community impact report showcases the company’s investments in local communities and in “building a stronger foundation for future generations.”

“I’m proud to say that we’re building a business that cares deeply about our communities and champions our vision to be Canada’s favourite insurance broker,” added Watson. “Through our community activities we’re promoting vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive communities and this is something we’re extremely passionate about.”
