Westland Insurance Group has appointed Donna Barclay to the role of executive vice president of commercial.
Barclay was most recently serving as the president & chief operating officer of The Guarantee Company of North America. She had also previously filled in as the company’s chief underwriting officer. She has more than 30 years of executive and underwriting leadership experience.
As EVP of commercial, Barclay will have responsibility for Westland’s national commercial strategy. She will report to Westland Insurance Group president & COO Jamie Lyons, and will be based in Ontario.
“We are thrilled to be able to add someone of Donna’s calibre as we expand our executive team,” commented Lyons on Barclay’s appointment. “Westland has grown to become one of the leading SME Commercial brokers in the Canadian market.”
Lyons added that Westland has more than quadrupled the size of its commercial platform over the last five years, and that it has an “ambitious” plan in the years ahead.
“Donna is going to play a key role in helping shape and execute on our exciting commercial vision,” the president said.
Earlier this month, Westland closed three acquisitions – Hillcrest Insurance in Alberta, Pinks & Plates Insurance, also in Alberta, and Moon Insurance, in Saskatchewan. The three acquisitions add seven new branch locations in the Prairies region for Westland, supporting the broker’s expansion strategy.
