A sales data report from travel insurance comparison site Squaremouth suggests that the number of Americans traveling to Canada is growing at a faster rate than any other popular destination. Although the report does not mention anything about how the upcoming U.S. presidential election could be a major factor in these results, the timing of this report suggests a correlation.
"We've seen a huge increase in customers traveling to Canada this year, especially this summer," Squaremouth spokesperson Rachael Taft said. "Canada has become the third most popular international destination for American travelers, a spot previously held by France."
According to the report, the number of American travelers to Canada saw a year-over-year growth of 41%. The report also found that Canada was the top international destination for American travelers for this summer with a 70% year-over-year increase compared to last summer.
Travel to North American destinations is on the rise despite moderately static growth in U.S. domestic travel, the report noted. Of the top 10 international destination among Squaremouth’s customers, Canada and Mexico saw the biggest growth in American travelers in 2016.
Notably, the report also discovered that U.S. residents insuring their trips to Canada spent 71% more during this summer than in the other three seasons combined.
