A top Markel International executive is planning to stand down from his role at the end of the year, the company has announced.
Jeremy Brazil has overseen Markel International’s underwriting for nearly a decade. He’s also responsible for the company’s reinsurance buying strategy, and played a major role in the creation of Markel International after Markel acquired Terra Nova in 2000. Brazil will stand down from his full-time executive role at the end of this year, but will continue to provide consultancy advice to the board and senior management team, Markel said in a news release.
“Jeremy has contributed hugely to the success of Markel International since the acquisition of Terra Nova in 2000,” said Markel International President William Stovin. “He’s been a great colleague and we are pleased that, as a consultant to the company, we will continue to be able to benefit from his experience and expertise. He goes with our thanks and best wishes.”
Nick Line, chief actuary, will step in to oversee Markel International’s underwriting functions. Stuart Lee, currently the head of reserving, will become head of actuarial. He will form a new actuarial leadership team with Julien Masselot (head of capital), David Mowat (head of pricing) and Andrew Green (head of catastrophe management).
