Sun Life Financial has appointed Laura Money to the role of executive vice-president and chief information officer, effective June 29, 2020.
As CIO, Money will oversee the development of technology solutions for clients, as well as the digital transformation journey of Sun Life. She will report to Sun Life chief financial officer and executive vice-president Kevin Strain. Money succeeds Mark Saunders, who announced his retirement at the end of April 2021.
Money joins from major Canadian bank CIBC, where she held the position of senior vice-president and CIO of corporate centre technology. She spent eight years at CIBC, and prior to serving as CIO, she was SVP of strategic initiatives, retail & business banking. Money has held various other senior IT and business roles throughout her career in banking and at a global consulting company.
“We’re excited to have Laura join our Sun Life team at such a pivotal and unprecedented time during our digital journey,” said Sun Life CEO Dean Connor. “We’ve made significant progress in digitizing our business. I know that Laura will help us to accelerate on that path as we continue to deliver innovative ways of meeting and anticipating client needs.”
Connor added that Sun Life’s investment in technology over the years has been a “tremendous benefit” in continuing to serve the company’s clients in an uninterrupted fashion. The CEO also said that this shift to digital – driven by the pandemic – is here to stay.
