To commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday, an insurer is expanding on its program that lends musical instruments to interested citizens free of charge.
Sun Life Financial announced yesterday at the Vancouver Public Library that it is expanding on its Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library program, with plans to make the initiative available in more cities. Through the program, anyone with a valid library card can borrow a variety of musical instruments from participating local public libraries.
The Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library was first launched in 2016, at the Parkdale Branch of the Toronto Public Library.

The company will be making a philanthropic donation to fund the program operation, on top of providing 150 instruments to each participating library. Instruments include guitars, ukuleles, violins, drums, xylophones and portable keyboards.
