Sun Life is making two leadership changes in its Canadian business to “support the acceleration of [its] Client 2020 strategy.”
The company has announced that it is appointing Sun Life Financial Canada president Kevin Dougherty as executive vice-president of innovation and partnerships, with Jacques Goulet tapped to serve as Sun Life Financial Canada’s new president.
As executive vice-president of innovation and partnerships, Dougherty will “focus exclusively on accelerating growth through innovation and critical organizational capabilities,” a release said. He will be responsible for developing the company’s new digital health solutions business, overseeing the insurance research lab, accelerating data analytics and the use of AI, managing Sun Life’s use of reinsurance, and cultivating the company’s external innovation partnerships.
“Kevin has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to create new business models where none existed, and to rally Sun Life leaders to collaborate across boundaries, as one unified team,” commented Sun Life Financial president and CEO Dean Connor. “Putting a leader of Kevin’s calibre against our innovation and partnership agenda speaks to our commitment to creating meaningful differentiation in the marketplace, and for clients.”
Goulet – Sun Life Financial Canada’s new president – was previously with
Mercer, where he was president of health and wealth. As president of Sun Life’s Canadian business, he will be responsible for the company’s group benefits, group retirement services, individual wealth, insurance and investment management businesses in the country.
“Jacques is known as a transformational leader with global experience. His track record for developing strong teams, driving business growth, and raising the bar on client outcomes will serve our Canadian businesses well as we strive to extend our leadership position,” said Connor.
Both Dougherty and Goulet will report to Connor. They will also join Sun Life Financial’s executive team.
