Specialty Program Group Canada Inc. (SPGC), headquartered in both Vancouver and Toronto, has announced a strategic amalgamation with Totten Insurance Group Inc. (Totten) and Anderson-McTague & Associates Ltd. (AMT), effective January 1, 2025.
The merger of these three specialty insurance organizations aims to bolster their ability to provide insurance solutions to brokers and clients across Canada.
Once completed, the amalgamated company will operate under the SPGC banner, employing 500 professionals across five underwriting brands and one claims management brand. This integration will combine SPGC’s established brands—such as Cansure, Beacon, and i3 Underwriting Services—with the expertise and reputation of Totten and AMT.
SPGC will oversee five managing general agent (MGA) brands, offering personal and commercial property and casualty insurance solutions to licensed brokers across Canada. SPGC’s claims management division, Specialty Claims Canada, will provide 24/7 claims services.
Cameron Copeland, president and CEO of SPGC, spoke to the significance of the merger. “As we bring SPGC and Totten/AMT together, we are creating a truly national platform that will deliver greater value to our carrier and broker partners, and our policyholder customers,” said Copeland.
“This amalgamation will allow us to strengthen our deep underwriting expertise, extend our capacity and capabilities, and add shared resources to super-charge how we show up faster, better, and create more value for customers. Together we are stronger, and we will work harder to earn a place in our customer’s business as a trusted and preferred supplier.”
SPGC’s brands include Cansure, which offers commercial property and casualty insurance with a focus on the construction industry; i3 Underwriting Services, which provides solutions for complex and upper-middle market risks; Beacon, which offers personal lines such as non-standard habitational insurance, boats, off-road vehicles, and special event liability; Totten, which specializes in commercial property and casualty insurance with program expertise; and Anderson-McTague, which serves Atlantic Canada with both commercial and personal insurance solutions. SPGC also operates an online portal for quoting, binding, and issuing a range of personal, commercial, and specialty products.
