As it looks to branch out its business and enter a new market, Markel International, the specialist insurer, has announced a senior underwriter appointment to its newly created marine equipment business.
Andy Lane has been appointed senior underwriter of the new marine equipment business within Markel’s larger marine, energy and property division. Lane has 20 years of experience in the industry, most recently working as class underwriter for marine equipment at Skuld. He has also previously worked at
Tokio Marine,
CNA and RSA in senior underwriting positions.
He is joining David Stallard who started his underwriting role at Markel earlier this year. Stallard has worked for 17 years in the London marine market as an underwriter and broker.
Paul Jenks, managing director of Markel’s marine, energy and property division, said Lane and Stallard are leaders in the market.
“As our customer’s marine and transportation businesses become increasingly diversified, we have been actively broadening and extending the range of coverage that we offer so that we can provide them with the comprehensive service they are looking for,” Jenks said.
In April this year
Insurance Business UK reported Markel reduced its number of operating divisions from seven to three in order to simplify the structure of its wholesale business and run the business more efficiently.
