To help alleviate the financial impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, RSA Canada has announced a number of measures.

It revealed that the following steps will be in place until June 30, 2020:

  • For customers, the insurance company is offering reduced premiums to those who are driving or commuting less, or who are no longer using their vehicles due to the pandemic. Customers should contact their broker or insurance representative to make the changes in their auto coverage, RSA Canada said. The company is also offering flexible payment options, payment deferrals, and other forms of payment support for those suffering from financial hardship.
  • Personal auto insurance customers using their vehicles temporarily for delivery services (i.e. for pharmacies, restaurants, grocery stories, or as part of an app-based food delivery service) will be given coverage by RSA Canada. This additional coverage will not change the customer’s premium.
  • NSF fees for personal and small commercial policies charged by RSA Canada occurring after April 01, 2020 will be waived. The company offered a reminder that some financial institutions may charge separate NSF fees, so customers are encouraged to contact their local bank for more information.
  • The coverage of Canadians required by their employers to work from home will not be changed in any way.

RSA Canada also noted that the above measures will continue to be reviewed as the situation develops.

The insurer has also introduced relief measures for its commercial insurance customers. The insurer is adjusting its ratings approach; working with broker partners to be flexible and accommodating in terms of premiums and payment deferrals; offering flexible underwriting solutions for clients making changes to their operations to adapt to COVID-19; and providing guidance to businesses that have shut down.

RSA Canada is also donating $100,000 to Food Banks Canada – the money will be used to purchase food for those living with food insecurities, particularly during this challenging time.

“In the last month, Canadians have changed where they work, how much they drive and what they need to protect themselves, their families and their businesses,” said RSA Canada president and CEO Martin Thompson. “As a national insurer, our promise is to be there for our customers when they need us most, so we are implementing new measures to provide meaningful assistance during these uncertain times.”
