“Being an underwriter is not an easy job.”
Those were the words of Sylvester Slowakiewicz, director of personal lines at Billyard Insurance Group, in the newly released five-star underwriters report. He was one of a host of brokers giving their verdict on the performance of the nation’s underwriting partners – pinpointing what’s important across a range of criteria.
To uncover the best underwriters in the Canadian insurance industry, the Insurance Business team undertook a rigorous marketing and survey process, leveraging its connections to brokers across the country. Brokers were asked to nominate their underwriters and rate them on six key criteria: communication, new business turnaround times, knowledge of their own products, knowledge of their competitors’ products, being solution-oriented, and ability to discuss new cases.
Underwriters that were rated 80% or greater were named 5-Star Underwriters for 2023.
So who made the list?
Among those to qualify was Mary Giunta, assistant vice president of casualty at Arch Insurance. She is an experienced underwriter with 28 years in the industry and joined the firm back in its first year of operation in Canada back in 2005.
However, she was from alone.
In total, there were 45 underwriters that made the cut thanks to broker feedback. So click through now to the 2023 five-star underwriters report – available for free - to find out who else made it.
