Red River Mutual has announced the winners of its “Spruce Up Your Story” funding initiative, a program which aims to rejuvenate local community spaces across two provinces where the insurance firm’s brokers operate.
The company has selected 10 winners out of the over 150 applications it has received from communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Red River Mutual will be awarding the winners a total of $150,000 to fund for the restoration of a local gathering space – be it a recreation centre, a public park, a library, skating rink, and so on.
When the company first announced the program in February, it originally planned to award a total of $40,000 – the amount has since been increased by nearly four times.
Red River Mutual evaluated the submitted renovation/beautification projects based on community use and significance, commitment to sustainability, and connections to a local insurance brokerage.
“Spruce Up Your Story is another chance for Red River Mutual to honour and protect where stories are made,” said Red River Mutual president and CEO Brian Esau. “We do this with our insurance products and now we’ve extended this beyond the home, farm and workplace through this new initiative.”
Esau also shared that he was humbled by the overwhelming response to the campaign, adding that “even a global pandemic couldn’t shake that Prairie sense of community.”
The list of winners can be viewed on Red River Mutual’s website.
