The 2024 Insurance Business Canada Awards (IBCA’s) lit up Toronto’s Liberty Grand with a dazzling celebration of the Canadian insurance industry's best and brightest on November 13.
Hundreds of professionals came together for a night filled with recognition and inspiration, as the industry's achievements, innovation, and leadership took center stage.
Now in its ninth year, the IBCAs continues to honor outstanding brokers, brokerages, insurers, underwriters, MGAs, and insurtech firms for their exceptional contributions. Highlighting the importance of the IBCAs to the wider insurance industry, Vinita Jajware-Beatty, president of the Toronto Insurance Women’s Association (TIWA) and official media partner of the IBCAs, shared, “Creating and holding space for the recognition of industry professionals is at the heart of our association’s values. Insurance Business has done a fantastic job providing a platform where professionals can take pride in their achievements, showcase their success among peers, and engage in friendly competition throughout the year to stay at the top of their game.”
The 2024 award winners and sponsors revealed their keys to success in the industry and shared insightful advice on inspiring the next generation of insurance professionals.
Taking home the coveted award for Underwriter of the Year, Moya Campbell, property and EB product language specialist at HSB Canada, shared valuable advice for young professionals looking to make their mark on the industry: "Be confident in who you are and never shy away from a challenge. It's okay not to have all the answers—those are the moments where you have the opportunity to learn from senior colleagues with years of experience. That’s always been my approach."
Echoing this advice, Jordan Aravena, relationship manager at First Insurance Funding of Canada and recipient of the Business Development Manager of the Year award, said, “Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You can’t know it all, and you never know who might become your next mentor. Building and fostering genuine relationships has been key to my success.
Also dedicated to supporting the next generation of insurance talent is PAL Insurance, sponsor of the PAL Insurance Brokers Award for Young Achiever of the Year. Reflecting on the firm’s involvement with the award, marketing director Amber Morrison-Givens shared: “PAL is a family-owned firm with four generations that have worked in the business. That’s why we’re passionate about the Young Achiever Award. We’re dedicated to nurturing talent not only within our family but across the broader industry.”
PAL also emphasized the importance of spotlighting young achievers, noting that it provides visibility for younger generations entering the industry, helping them see role models they can aspire to.
When discussing the traits young insurance professionals need to succeed today, Morrison-Givens added, “They must be ambitious, tenacious, and able to think outside the box. Going the extra mile is crucial. Insurance is a relationship-driven business, and those who excel in this area will find success.”
