Hong Kong-based Peak Reinsurance Company (Peak Re) has appointed Sascha Bruns (pictured) as director, head of global retrocession, effective September 01.
According to a statement from the reinsurer, Bruns will lead the design and implementation of the retrocession strategy for its global property & casualty business. He will be based in Hong Kong, and will report to Franz Josef Hahn, CEO of Peak Re.
“Sascha’s background makes him a great fit for this newly created role,” said Hahn. “He has a keen understanding of the traditional covers as well as capital market securitization. With his network of retrocessionaires, reinsurers, brokers, as well as alternative capital providers, I am confident that he will be a great addition to our team and a key contributor to the development of our retro strategy.”
Prior to this appointment, Bruns was formerly senior underwriter & deputy to the head of group Protections at Hannover Re. He joined Hannover Re almost two decades ago, holding positions of increasing seniority. Before that, he was with Gen Re as an assistant underwriter.
Bruns has broad experience in analyzing, structuring, placing and administrating natural catastrophe retrocessions programs, and is a Fellow member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
