The provincial government of Ontario has chosen an insurance industry executive as one of four people who will be posted overseas to attract investment and grow international trade.
Taylor Shields, currently assistant vice president for marketing at Chubb, will be sent to London as an agents-general to help create opportunities for Ontario companies and close investment deals. Her appointment is for a period of three years and carries a salary of $185,000.
An agents-general serves as Ontario’s primary international representative in their locations, working with the province’s existing network of 14 trade and investment offices.
“Taking Ontario’s open for business message around the world will help create the good jobs people need right here at home,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford. “Our government will work closely with these experts to make sure they’re delivering what we need and creating opportunities for our businesses to thrive.”
Ford also appointed three other agents-generals who will be sent to the cities of Chicago, Dallas, and New York. The appointees include Earl Provost, who served as chief of staff to Ford’s late brother Rob Ford when he was mayor of Toronto, Jag Badwal, a past president of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, and finance executive Tyler Albrecht.
