Nissan is recalling almost 240,000 cars and SUVs around the world due to a fire risk.
Automotive News Canada reported that 19,761 of the vehicles being recalled are in Canada, while 215,124 vehicles are being recalled in the US.
Vehicles being recalled include certain 2015 to 2017 Nissan Muranos, 2016 and 2017 Nissan Maximas, 2017 through 2018 Nissan Pathfinders and 2017 Infiniti QX60 vehicles. Nissan estimated that 56% of the vehicles identified have the problem.
An anti-lock brake pump issue is the cause for the recall. According to Nissan, faulty pumps can leak brake fluid on to a circuit board, which could cause an electrical short and possibly start a fire.
Starting October 15, Nissan dealers will inspect the pump serial numbers and will replace them if necessary.
Nissan has cautioned drivers that if they see the anti-lock brake warning lamp of their vehicles on for more than 10 seconds after starting the engine, they should stop driving immediately and park their automobiles outdoors and away from structures and other vehicles.
The Associated Press reported that several Muranos were recalled in 2016 for the same problem.
