Munich Re’s supervisory board has appointed Nicholas J. Gartside (pictured) as the group’s new chief investment officer.
Gartside, who also joins Munich Re’s new board of management, will be responsible for the group’s asset management starting March 18, 2019, a release said.
He is currently serving as managing director at J.P. Morgan Asset Management in London – he is also international chief investment officer of the company’s “Global Fixed Income, Currency & Commodities” group. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 2010, Gartside was head of global fixed income at Schroder Investment Management.
A British citizen, Gartside received his Bachelor of Arts degree, major in history and politics from Durham University. He also earned his Master in Philosophy, major in international relations from Cambridge University.
In a statement, Munich Re board of management chairman Joachim Wenning explained that the board of management division was created because the group was convinced that it could “further optimize the risk-return-profile of [its] investment portfolio.”
“An essential pre-requisite to achieve this is to centralize results responsibility,” Wenning added.
