WTW is being accused of plotting to disrupt rival Marsh’s business in Canada following the former’s swoop for Marsh colleagues in Toronto and Ottawa.

According to a report by The Insurer, Marsh Canada has initiated legal proceedings not only against WTW but also against the 10 people who resigned in September to make the switch.

A previous report cited Lisa Irvan, Andrea Ryan Williamson, and Grant Williamson as among the 10.

According to Marsh Canada’s complaint, WTW plans to “unlawfully compete” and disrupt its business via the alleged poaching in Ottawa and Toronto.

Employee raiding accusations are nothing new in insurance. Last year, Howden issued an apology to Marsh McLennan’s reinsurance broking arm Guy Carpenter as a part of a UK settlement with Howden Tiger.

“The Howden Group acknowledges that it, and certain of its executive officers, engaged in unlawful recruitment from Guy Carpenter as set out in the admissions made to the High Court,” reads part of the apology.

“Howden Group and the individuals involved… regret the actions they have taken.”

The Howden Tiger case involved more than 30 hires from Guy Carpenter’s European operations.
