Manulife is collaborating with Montreal-based Transat to provide the integrated tourism company’s customers with travel medical insurance at no extra charge.
The complimentary “COVID-19 Emergency Medical Certificate of Insurance” is available to Transat customers who book a roundtrip flight from Canada to an international Air Transat destination or a Transat package to Mexico, Central or South America, or the Caribbean – specifically flights booked from September 25 to October 31, 2020, and for vacation stays of up to 21 days between October 01, 2020, and April 30, 2021.
The insurance program features emergency medical insurance for up to $200,000 per insured person for medical and hospital expenses that may be incurred as a result of a positive COVID-19 test result during the trip. It also covers accommodations costs caused by quarantine or isolation due to a positive COVID-19 test result during the trip – up to $150 a day per insured person or $300 a day per family, for a maximum of 14 days.
Manulife’s insurance will be automatically included in the purchase of a Transat tourism package, whether through a travel agency, website, or through Transat’s customer service, a release said.
“The travel industry has been transforming at a frantic pace in recent months, and we are listening to our customers’ expectations in order to offer them programs and solutions adapted to the new realities,” said Transat chief operating officer Annick Guérard.
Guérard added that Manulife’s insurance complements Transat’s own health and safety program, Traveller Care.
“Our top priority remains the health and safety of our customers, employees, partners and communities,” commented Manulife Affinity Markets vice-president of distribution Wally Thompson. “That’s why offering specialized travel insurance for Canadians is important. Offering coverage for COVID-related expenses means we can help Canadians protect what matters most when they plan their travel with Transat.”
Manulife has also partnered with Air Canada to provide similar complimentary travel medical insurance to all international flight passengers with the airline company.
