Manulife has partnered with healthcare technology provider League to offer personalized and fully integrated digital healthcare services within its group benefits ecosystem.

In a news release announcing the partnership, Manulife described the move as a “significant milestone” in its commitment to innovation and data-driven healthcare solutions.

League is a Canadian platform technology company with a presence across North America. Its healthcare consumer experience (CX) platform engages users through rewards and gamification to help them complete goals focused on staying healthy and managing their conditions. It also uses a cloud-based system model that seamlessly integrates with Manulife’s existing online group benefits capabilities.

With League’s platform, members can directly link their benefits with their health care options. Additionally, they will gain access to an array of tools and resources to help them fully understand their benefits plan, adopt healthy lifestyle habits, connect with trusted providers, manage virtual appointments, and receive support for chronic conditions such as depression, anxiety, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

Manulife’s new digital health and benefits customer experience will become available to all plan members through Manulife’s group benefits mobile app in early 2024, with plans to extend availability to plan member websites later in the year.

More features will also be integrated into the platform over time, according to Manulife.

Head of group benefits Ashesh Desai said the technology from League will provide customers with a better way to access information that helps them “understand their health, focus on prevention, and access the care they need.”

“Our partnership with League will make it easier for members to navigate their health journeys and, in turn, help employers foster healthier workforces and manage costs associated with employee illness, such as absenteeism and lower productivity,” he said.

“What excites me most about this project is that it's truly designed for meaningful member engagement. Traditional offerings often fail because they are solely transactional,” said Michael Serbinis, League’s CEO and founder. “This collaboration will allow us to deliver an orchestrated series of personalized next-best actions and drive real behavior change.”
