Manulife has revealed that the volume of trip cancellation claims it has received has nearly doubled from previous years.

In a letter addressed to agents, Manulife thanked agents for their work over the past few months.

“This historic pandemic is impacting all of us in the travel business and we realize no-one has been impacted more than you, the front-line agents,” the insurer said, adding that it has been doing its best to keep agents updated as the situation evolves.

Manulife also revealed in its letter than it has been handling an extraordinary number of claims since the outbreak hit.

“During these unprecedented times, we are managing a much higher volume of claims and to date have received over 39,000 claims, with over 80% being trip cancellation,” the company said. “To put this in perspective, this represents a 90% increase from previous years.”

With so many claims being processed, Manulife apologized to agents for any inconvenience it has caused.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work our way through every claim and adjudicate each on its own individual merit,” it said. “We ask you pass along our appreciation to your clients as well.”

The company additionally advised agents to check the pre-recorded and live webinars that it has produced, which Manulife says can help agents better understand the insurer’s position on COVID-19, as well as suggest which products to sell in the future.
