MADD Canada has unveiled its 2024-2025 school program, One Last Dance. The program, designed to educate youth on the grave consequences of impaired driving, will be delivered to students in Grades 7-12 across Manitoba.
Provincial sponsor Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is funding 118 presentations this year to emphasize the importance of reducing impaired driving among young people.
The program features one-hour presentations that deliver a powerful and emotional message about the impact of impaired driving. By showcasing real-life consequences, the presentations aim to encourage responsible decision-making and promote road safety.
The special screening featured guests including MADD Canada national president Tanya Hansen Pratt, chief operating officer Dawn Regan, and Maria Campos, chief customer and product officer at MPI. Representatives from MADD Brandon and MADD Winnipeg were also in attendance.
According to a news release, impaired driving remains a critical issue in Canada, as road crashes are a leading cause of death among youth. Alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs play a role in more than half of incidents.
The program will be available in various formats: assembly, classroom, or virtual. Following the presentations, educators get to receive additional resources, including an Educators’ Guide and a School Kit.
MADD Canada’s partnership with MPI aim to empower youth to make safer, more informed choices, aiming to prevent impaired driving tragedies and make roads safer for Canadians.
