ISC Group – an international network of women in senior positions in the insurance industry – has appointed Alexandra Spence (pictured) to serve as chair of ISC Canada Aspire.
As chair of ISC Canada Aspire, Spence will help drive the group’s Aspire Program locally in Canada – which aims to help women in mid-level insurance positions attain senior management roles.
Spence began her insurance career as an E&O underwriter and has worked at Berkley for nearly a decade. She is currently serving as an AVP of distribution at the company and holds a Chartered Insurance Professional designation.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to build on the momentum started by Jodie Kaufman Davis, Burns & Wilcox Canada, who has developed an empowering community of women in Canada,” commented Spence on her appointment. “My position as Aspire Chair will allow me to broaden the network for ambitious female insurance leaders to come together to grow, challenge, learn and connect. It’s a chance for Canada to get involved and lead the way with global conversations around the promotion of women in the insurance industry.”
“I am excited to perpetuate the Aspire program under Alexandra’s capable leadership,” said ISC Canada chair Jodie Kaufman Davis of Burns & Wilcox. “Alexandra’s industry experience and strong drive to develop herself and others around her will surely result in a tremendous networking and learning platform for the group.”
“ISC Canada has been a pivotal development for ISC Group under the excellent stewardship of Jodie Kaufman Davis. We take this opportunity to thank Jodie and her ISC board members and colleagues for all their support in getting fantastic local engagement,” said ISC Group founder and chair Barbara Schonhofer.
Schonhofer added that ISC is currently entering a new chapter of global expansion, and the addition of Spence to the team is an exciting opportunity.
“From a multi-national underwriting background to being a senior team of Berkley Canada, Alexandra is ideally placed to increase our influence and community empowering each other and the next generations of female leaders,” the group founder said.
The Canadian arm of ISC Group launched three years ago. During the 2019-2020 period, ISC Canada piloted the Aspire Membership program. General membership to the program provided benefits, but Aspire members were also given access to monthly workshops to aid in their career development, as well as help build business relationships.
