Intact Financial Corporation has announced the results of its Generosity in Action campaign, which will see the insurer give funds to charitable organizations selected by its own employees.
The charity campaign managed to raise a total of over $4.5 million. Intact’s employees raised a record $2.3 million over the span of two weeks – and every dollar donated was then matched by Intact. The proceeds were donated to a registered charity of an employee’s choice, or to their local United Way agency.
"Helping people drives everything we do at Intact, and it starts with each of us. I am extremely proud of the generosity of our employees to help others and make our communities more resilient," said Intact Financial CEO Louis Gagnon.
Intact cited data from Statistics Canada, which found that 75% of Canadians are struggling with day-to-day expenses. Meanwhile, almost half of Canadians are finding it difficult to meet rising food prices, and Canada’s food banks are facing the highest demand from their communities.
For the third quarter of 2022, Intact Financial reported a 23% increase in net income – a notable feat considering it had to grapple with “active weather” and ongoing cost pressures during the period. For the quarter ending September 30, 2022, the company reported a profit of $370 million, up from $300 million in Q3 2021.
