RBC Insurance announced yesterday an exclusive agreement with medical information services company Best Doctors Canada to offer RBC Insurance’s disability insurance clients with mental health support and advocacy.

Called Onward, the program “is geared towards helping clients with depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns, get healthy, productive and back to work sooner,” a company release said.

As early intervention is critical when dealing with mental illnesses, Onward provides clients with immediate access to psychologists. It includes 12 therapy sessions that can be conveniently conducted online, so that clients do not have to worry about traveling and the costs of such appointments. Onward also offers diagnosis and treatment recommendations from a leading psychiatrist to the client’s physician while delegating an advocate to each client to walk them through the process.

“We are thrilled to be rolling out this innovative mental health program to our group and individual clients,” remarked RBC Insurance group & business markets vice-president John Carinci. “We see the enormous impact mental illness has on the lives of our clients. This is why we partnered with Best Doctors to deliver a program that is specifically designed to provide those individuals with the holistic support they need to help them recover more quickly.”

“Mental health is an often forgotten and overlooked element of health care, yet research continues to demonstrate the incredible role it plays for the wellbeing of an individual, a family, an employer, the economy, and our society at large,” said Best Doctors CEO Peter McClennen. “This unique solution ensures that each group and individual client has access to the leading physicians and programs that combat key mental health issues. Best Doctors is proud to work with a forward-thinking partner, like RBC Insurance, to deliver this innovative and much-needed solution.”

“Addressing mental health challenges and reducing the stigma associated with these illnesses is one of the biggest challenges facing Canadian society,” commented Michael Landsberg, a popular sports broadcaster and founder of #SickNotWeak, an organization devoted to helping mental health sufferers.

“We believe that this country faces a crisis in the treatment for mental health challenges. This program offered by RBC Insurance will make a huge difference in getting care and support to patients with the correct diagnosis faster.  Less time spent suffering and a more accurate diagnosis is what all patients deserve but what few get.”
