One insurer is expanding its leadership team in British Columbia and the Prairies, including a new vice-president of sales and distribution.
Economical Insurance has appointed Cheryl Edmunson, Chris Weber and Graham Doerr to new senior management roles in that companies Western Canada operations.
“These changes provide a platform for a more targeted focus on our growth strategies in British Columbia, Alberta, and the Prairies, as well as continued alignment with Family Insurance Solutions Inc., our wholly-owned managing general agent based in Vancouver,” said Tom Reikman, senior vice-president and chief operating officer of Economical Insurance. “I am delighted to welcome Cheryl Edmunson to our leadership team in B.C. and to recognize Graham Doerr’s experience and success at Family.
“We are also enabling Chris Weber to focus on important growth markets in Alberta and the Prairies.”
Edmunson is joining Economical in the new role of vice-president, sales and distribution, British Columbia effective June 23. She will have regional leadership accountability for Economical’s sales and distribution operations in British Columbia, focusing on our profitable growth strategy for BC. Reporting to Javier Ibanez, Economical’s vice-president responsible for national sales and distribution, she will also oversee Family Insurance once Harry Kloosterhuis retires as president and CEO effective June 30.
Edmunson brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the property and casualty industry, including claims, underwriting and operations. Prior to joining Economical, Edmunson was vice-president, operations and underwriting at Canadian Northern Shield, part of the Royal & Sun Alliance group.
Prior to that, she held senior leadership roles with
Aviva and ING Insurance Company of Canada.
Currently Family’s vice-president, sales and marketing, Doerr will be accountable for general operations, including sales and distribution, marketing, underwriting and all support functions as the new chief operating officer of Family Insurance.
Doerr has over 24 years of experience in the insurance industry and has been a member of Family’s leadership team since 2003. (continued.)

Weber will become vice-president, sales and distribution, Alberta and the Prairies, effective June 23. He will have regional leadership accountability for Economical’s sales and distribution operations and driving growth in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while continuing to report to Javier Ibanez.
Weber joined Economical in 2001 and has held a number of senior leadership and executive roles, including vice-president, sales and distribution, Western region; vice-president, analytics; and vice-president, transformation.
