The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) has named Suzanne Pountney (pictured) as its newly elected president for 2023.
Pountney is the commercial lines manager at Ontario West Insurance Brokers in London and has been part of the IBAO board of directors since Fall 2019. She also served on the London Insurance Brokers Association’s board of directors for 12 twelve years, including three terms as president.
Within IBAO, Pountney has been a key figure in the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) committee, having served as chair since its establishment in 2020.
“There are many challenges on the horizon,” said Pountney. “Auto reform, talent acquisition and retention, regulatory changes, increased M&A, new ownership structures—IBAO advocates on behalf of Ontario Brokers with great success, which leads to better outcomes for Ontario consumers. I’m proud to represent the IBAO and its 16,000 members across Ontario.”
“We are beyond pleased to have Suzanne serving as our new President,” added IBAO CEO Colin Simpson. “She brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and passion to the role. We’re glad to have her leading our Board of Directors throughout the coming year.”
Pountney is IBAO’s first new president since 2020, as the regular cycle of one-year presidential terms was put on hold due to the pandemic. Her official induction took place during the association’s Annual General Meeting & Virtual Spring Summit on April 18. She succeeds Joseph Carnevale and will remain in the role until April 2024.
