Many insurance businesses enjoy donating to charitable causes during the holiday season, but one brokerage in Ontario has launched an initiative that will provide ongoing financial support to the Sick Kids Foundation, all with the help of its clients and their networks.

The idea is simple: anytime somebody places a call to Buckley Insurance Brokers Ltd seeking a personal lines quote, the company will contribute $5 to the organization.

“As soon as you call, we donate $5, no matter where they’re calling from,” said Brian Tatum, business development and marketing coordinator, Buckley Insurance Brokers Ltd.

Tatum says that the brokerage fundraises for the Sick Kids Foundation throughout the year, through such programs as a matching gifts drive. Still, this particular idea became a reality in November, and may continue for some time in the next year.

“We’re open to raising quite a bit of money for them this year and continuing into 2016,” Tatum said. “There’s no definitive end date to it, it just depends on how well it’s received and what impact we can make on the hospital.”

So far, Buckley Insurance Brokers has tried to publicize this campaign through social media, flyers and notices in local newspapers, but many consumers are respond to it so well that they spread the word themselves.

“One of the great things is about this is that it helps spread awareness. If you call for a quote and we tell you afterwards that your inquiry resulted in a donation, you might want to tell a friend or family member about it,” Tatum said.

While that networking has resulted in “another opportunity to generate business,” Tatum says the brokerage is more grateful for the assistance it brings to the charity.

“It’s always nice when you can do things that are obviously a benefit to the insurance company, but the best part for is raising awareness for a great cause and providing additional funding for Sick Kids,” he said.
