Gallagher has announced significant changes to its broking leadership team in Canada.
Dave Partington (pictured), chief executive of global brokerage in Canada, now has a wider remit, having assumed leadership of Gallagher’s businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean in addition to his Canadian function.
“Under Dave’s leadership, Gallagher has achieved remarkable success in Canada, solidifying its position as a market leader and driving unprecedented growth,” Gallagher noted in its announcement. “With Dave’s expanded role, he will now bring his exceptional expertise, strategic acumen, and passion for excellence to Latin America and the Caribbean.”
With Partington at the helm of three regions, the leadership team in Canada will be implementing adjustments from July 1.
The internal hires include Tyler Averill, who will become president of Canada retail insurance and oversee the management of retail brokerage operations nationwide. Averill, who joined Gallagher in 2012 through the Noraxis acquisition, has been a pivotal figure in the company’s Canadian success over the past five years.
Mike Thornhill, meanwhile, will maintain his leadership of Caribbean business operations and additionally serve as president for specialty. He will oversee Canada’s MGA (managing general agent), personal lines, small business, condo, and Quebec operations. Thornhill has excelled in leading the Caribbean division and previously managed Atlantic Canada sales and operations.
Kevin Neiles, a senior leadership team member since joining Gallagher in 2014 and the key principal in predecessor firm Ranger Insurance, will retire at the end of 2024. Ilan Serman, who joined Gallagher in 2021 as the regional president for Ontario, will succeed him as chief markets officer. Neiles and Serman will work closely over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
