Foresters Financial has appointed a new president and CEO, filling in the spot left vacant by Anthony Garcia.
When the company first announced Garcia’s departure in July, it had named board members Sonia Baxendale and Mike Stramaglia as co-interim president and CEO.
James Boyle’s appointment as Foresters Financial’s president and CEO comes into effect January 08, 2018. He will be based in Toronto.
Boyle has over 30 years of financial services experience, having started his career at Coopers & Lybrand. According to a company release, he spent nearly 20 years with
Manulife Financial and John Hancock in a number of operating roles, later being named president and CEO of John Hancock in 2008. He later retired from John Hancock in 2012 and was subsequently involved in private and venture capital investing. He was most recently the CEO of early-stage healthcare technology start-up Zillion Group. Boyle also possesses a CPA designation.
In June, Boyle joined Foresters’ board of directors.
“Jim Boyle is an exceptional financial services leader, who was selected by the Board following a rigorous internal and external search. Jim has proven himself to be an exemplary leader, clear communicator, and a very successful developer of talent,” said Foresters Financial board of directors chair Robert Lamoureux. “Foresters Board of Directors is confident that he is well suited for this important role.”
“The Board extends its appreciation to Board members, Sonia Baxendale and Mike Stramaglia, for stepping into the co-interim CEO role in July,” added Lamoureux. “Mike and Sonia will support Jim in the early phases of his transition and return to their board committee chair roles on February 01, 2018.”
