In an ironic twist, the financial and insurance industry – an industry that deals in the business of risk – has topped a list of Canada’s least dangerous businesses.
Finder Canada has published the results of its Job Score rankings for 2018, putting insurers at the top with a Job Score of 210; the metric is based on wages, injuries and fatalities. The financial and insurance industry came in with an average weekly wage of $1,260 and a “Finder Danger Score” of six – the lowest score on the list.
By contrast, the worst industry for risk and reward was logging and forestry. The industry had an abysmal Finder Job Score of 2.2. The industry also had the highest proportion of fatalities from total employees, at 0.023%.
Although logging and forestry ranked the lowest, it did not have the highest number of fatalities among industries. That dubious honor belongs to the construction industry, which saw the highest number of fatalities, at 203.
