Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited has reappointed The Right Honourable David Johnston as a director.
Johnston had to step down in 2010 when he was named the Governor General of Canada. He served as Canada’s 28th Governor General from 2010 to 2017, and was later succeeded by Julie Payette, who currently holds the position.
Aside from serving as Governor General, Johnston has held a number of academic positions, such as principal and vice-chancellor of McGill University, as well as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo. He has also served on provincial and federal task forces and committees, has filled the role of president of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (now called Universities Canada) and of the Conférence des recteurs et des principaux des universités du Québec.
Johnston also holds distinction as the first non-US citizen to be elected chair of Harvard University’s board of overseers.
