BMS Group (BMS), an independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has kickstarted its growth plans for 2022 by appointing Ian Matheson as the new non-executive chairman of its Canadian operations, effective February 01, 2022.
Matheson is a highly experienced risk management professional who has held various leadership roles in major insurance companies. Before BMS, he spent 15 years at Aon and its subsidiaries, taking up senior roles such as the chief executive officer of its Captive Services in Canada, chief development officer and director, and chief consulting officer and director of Risk Management Consultants of Canada Limited. Previously, he was also the senior risk officer at Genstar Corporation and Harrowston Inc.
He has also taken a leadership role in various high-profile deals, particularly those related to tax indemnity insurance, M&A representations, and environmental cost cap insurance, as well as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). Most recently, he was responsible for the development of new FP 500 clients and an innovative suite of products and solutions.
In his new role, Matheson will support Brian Gomes, president and CEO of BMS Canada and the national leadership team.

Commenting on the team's new member, Gomes said he expects Matheson's experience to be instrumental in furthering the company's strategic development in both its current and new sectors.

Alongside being non-executive chairman of BMS's Canadian operations, Matheson will remain the principal and chief consulting officer of IRGM GLOBAL Risk Management Consultants Limited.
