Dog-bite insurance could be in demand soon; that’s if one municipality has its way in the wake of a shocking dog-attack.

Robin Elgie, who has just returned home after seven surgeries to repair his damaged arms, was attacked by two ‘bully-breed’ dogs in his Fort. St. John trailer after they chased his small dog Goldie inside. The dogs then turned on the 66 -year-old and his girlfriend, and also killed their cat.
In the wake of the attack, residents have met with officials from the City of Fort St. John to discuss new rules to protect against dog attacks – including requiring owners to have insurance.
Vancouver lawyer, Paul Bosco, who specializes in injury cases, was quoted by one media outlet as saying that dog bites are one of the top 10 reasons his clients launch civil lawsuits.
He went on to say that compelling owners to take out liability insurance prior to the issuance of a dog licence is an option open to municipalities, and one that would guard against the possibility of the victim being left with no means of gaining compensation.
