Desjardins Insurance is partnering with Constant Health to launch weight management coverage of obesity medications (OMs) in client plans.
Users may have some or all the program costs covered through their group coverage with Desjardin Insurance.
Constant Health’s weight management program includes personalized one-on-one coaching with registered dietitians. The app offers advice to clients using OMs to help reduce side effects and maximize the benefits of these drugs.
On the medical practitioner side, the app provides dietitians with data points to evaluate so they can further personalize their care approach.
“The expertise of the entire Constant Health team will be key for delivering on the behavioural component of OM-driven weight management programs for our clients,” Martin Nadon, senior director of products and training at Desjardins Insurance, commented on the partnership.
Dr. Alexandra Segal, director of clinical product and behaviour science at Constant Health, said the company is “incredibly honoured” to partner with Desjardins Insurance in providing “life-changing” weight management programs for Canadian clients.
“With 30% of those taking OMs stopping within one month and 58% stopping within three months it’s apparent that effective, long-term weight management requires healthy behaviours and expert dietician guidance to yield sustainable results,” Segal noted.
Desjardins Insurance has introduced or improved upon its group insurance offerings in recent years. In 2013, the company expanded an existing service to provide group insurance coverage to individuals struggling to start or expand their families. The program supports adoption, surrogacy and other assistance programs.
