Chubb has made two key leadership changes to its Canadian operations.
Paul Johnstone has been named Chubb Canada’s chief operating officer, reporting to Chubb Canada president John J. Alfieri. As chief operating officer, Johnstone will have executive operating responsibility for the organization’s retail property and casualty insurance business – which includes Chubb’s high-net-worth personal lines segment in Canada. He will also oversee the company’s accident and health offerings, and will support the company’s strategic priorities, focusing on increased digitalization, a release said.
Johnstone most recently served as head of Chubb Canada Personal Risk Services. He has nearly 27 years of Canadian insurance industry experience spanning the P&C and reinsurance sectors. Prior to ACE’s acquisition of Chubb in 2016, he was senior vice president of Canada Personal Risk Services (PRS). Johnstone joined Chubb in 1994 as an associate in commercial insurance.
Melanie Wilcox has been tapped to succeed Paul Johnstone’s previous role as head of Chubb Canada Personal Risk Services. Wilcox will lead the unit’s strategic initiatives and oversee the underwriting, marketing, business development, operations, and risk consulting teams. She will report to Chubb Canada president John J. Alfieri.
Prior to her promotion, Wilcox held the position of senior vice president and assistant region manager for Chubb Canada Personal Risk Services. She joined Chubb in 2000 as an associate in personal lines underwriting.
Both appointments became effective January 01, 2022.
“Chubb Canada has a deep bench of talent, broad products to offer, and a strong distribution channel,” said Chubb Group senior vice president and Chubb North America field operations division president Chris Maleno. “Paul has a diverse and accomplished career in the Canadian insurance market and brings broad perspective and deep market insight to today’s challenges and opportunities. His strong background and leadership experience is an ideal fit for this new role and positions him well to further broaden our footprint in Canada.”
“Paul and Melanie both bring extensive experience to their new roles,” added Chubb Canada president John J. Alfieri, who also noted Johnstone’s recent successful leadership of the company’s personal lines business and Wilcox’s technical background.
In December, Chubb also shuffled its North America commercial P&C leadership line-up, by promoting Seth Gillston as executive vice president of the company’s North America global casualty and multinational field operations. Bill Hazelton was appointed to succeed Gillston as practice leader of the real estate & hospitality business.
