For the third straight year, CHES Special Risk has been named as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers (SME) for 2022.
Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers is an editorial competition which puts a spotlight on SMEs with the best workplaces and top human resources policies. A release noted that employers are evaluated based on work atmosphere, as well as social, health, financial, and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skill development; and community involvement.
“The company strives to offer top perks and benefits like 17 weeks’ top up paternal pay, internal training and mentoring programs, paid continued education for any course employees would want to take, defined contribution pension plans, wellness subsidy to name a few,” commented CHES Special Risk president and CEO Gary Hirst. “The company believes in hiring the ‘best person for the job’, irrespective of gender, race or ethnicity.”
Hirst added that 70% of the company’s leadership is women and 14 languages are spoken across the managing general agent’s (MGA) five offices in Canada.

CHES Special Risk’s accolade for being a top employer comes weeks after the MGA was granted a Great Place to Work certification for 2022. The certification is based on direct feedback from employees, who participated in anonymous surveys about their workplace experience.
