Canopius has appointed Andrew Tongue as underwriter, trade & political risk, acting as deputy to Crispin Hodges, head of trade & political risk.
Tongue brings almost a decade of industry experience to Canopius’s newly created trade & political risk unit. He joins from Swiss Re where most recently he served as senior underwriter, political risks and trade credit. He also held senior underwriter positions at AXA Africa Specialty Risks and CNA Hardy previously.
“Andrew is exactly the calibre of underwriter we wish to attract, and his extensive expertise and experience will be a huge advantage as we develop the proposition further,” said Hodges. “We are delighted to announce he will be joining the team.”
“Following the integration of AmTrust, Canopius has a greatly extended political risk capability,” said Bernie de Haldevang, head of credit, political & crisis management at Canopius. “Andrew’s appointment demonstrates our intent to fully capitalize on the huge potential that has been created. Further expansion is expected, and the Syndicate 1861 portfolio will play an essential part in that.”
