Detractors of US presidential aspirant Donald Trump ganged up on a Canadian insurance company after mistaking it as the businessman’s hair care provider.
Ivari, a Canadian life insurance company specialising in universal, term and critical illness insurance, was recently called out on Twitter by Trump’s haters.
According to the insurer, the online attacks started when a popular American celebrity culture blog published an article claiming that Ivari International – a separate company – was responsible for Trump’s hair.
Ivari International is a French firm that produces hair loss solutions for prominent figures in the business and political world. It has denied that Trump is a client.
Ivari, the insurer, said that its Twitter handler @ivari_canada was assumed by Trump’s haters to be somehow affiliated with Ivari International.
“A firestorm of social media mentions ensued,” the insurance company said in a recent website post.
“The first few tweets @ivari_canada received had the marketing team in stitches. However, when the mentions really started rolling in, the team was shocked.”
The online misfortune apparently turned into a blessing for Ivari as the incident helped the company increase its social media audience.
Ivari said its marketing team had been strategizing about gaining more social media followers following the company rebrand.
“Now @ivari_canada has followers from all over Canada and the rest of the world,” the insurer said.
