Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced leadership appointments in Canada: Andrew Knight as country manager, Amanda Sorsak as claims head, and Paul Emerson as head of customer & broker engagement.

Knight, who first joined BHSI in 2016, most recently served as head of executive & professional lines (E&P). As BHSI’s first-ever country manager in Canada, he will oversee the insurer’s expansion into new market segments, products, and distribution channels, while retaining his E&P remit. A veteran with more than 20 years of insurance industry experience, Knight will continue to operate from Toronto.

Sorsak, previously head of first-party claims in Canada, will now take on the broader role of head of claims. She will oversee both first- and third-party claims, executing BHSI’s “Claims is our product” strategy across all lines of business. Sorsak, who has been with BHSI since 2015 and has nearly two decades of experience, will also remain in Toronto.

Emerson, who formerly led third-party claims, will now focus exclusively on his responsibilities as head of customer & broker engagement. In this role, Emerson will work to enhance BHSI’s market presence by leveraging the company’s financial strength, underwriting expertise, and service quality. Based in Toronto as well, he joined BHSI in 2015 and has almost 20 years of experience.

BHSI has achieved excellent growth in Canada, fuelled by the strength of the BHSI brand and balance sheet, and the talent of our teammates,” Sanjay Godhwani, head of North America at BHSI, highlighted. “Andrew, Amanda, and Paul have played leading roles in this success.

“As we move into a new phase of growth, I’m pleased to appoint them to leadership positions where their outstanding work will further elevate BHSI Canada and our products, services, and customer and broker relationships.”

BHSI currently underwrites a range of lines in Canada, including property, casualty, marine, surety, and E&P, with operations out of Toronto and a recently opened office in Calgary.
