belairdirect, a subsidiary of Intact Financial Corporation, has launched a new app feature designed to help drivers save money on fuel.
This fuel efficiency feature is a first-of-its-kind in the Canadian insurance market and is now available to automerit customers in Ontario and Quebec via the belairdirect app.
It works by showing drivers their average savings on gas over 30 days, which is derived from several factors, including driving behaviour, where and how much they drive, and the average cost of gas in their province. It also displays a gauge for drivers to see if their fuel consumption is trending high or low and provides valuable tips based on personal driving style and car maintenance to help drivers save on fuel.
Pierre-Paul Larivière, director of digital product design at belairdirect, said the company’s main aim was to make customers’ lives easier by providing them with personalized data that is valuable in their day-to-day lives.
“When developing new, digital features we're always thinking about how to make customers' lives easier and before going to market we test our app features with customers,” Larivière said. “Fuel efficiency was given a high score because it enables drivers to not only see how much they can potentially save on fuel costs but also how they can achieve this with feedback and tips on their driving behaviour.”
Along with fuel efficiency, belairdirect also launched two other first-to-market features to give customers further insights into their driving.
The eco-driving feature provides feedback on CO2 emissions and offers driving tips on how to reduce the eco footprint, while the safety feature allows customers to see how safe of a driver they are and how they compare to other automerit drivers in their province.
Other free features with belairdirect’s automerit program includes crash assist, car care and weather alerts. The program also allows customers more control over how much they spend for insurance with personalized premiums based on their driving habits assessed in real-time with feedback and tips.
Most automerit customers save money based on their good driving habits, the company said in a press release.
