Aviva has named Matthew Washington as its new global corporate and specialty director, under the company’s commercial lines division.
Officially taking up the role on March 14, Washington will report to Aviva managing director of commercial lines, UK general insurance Nick Major.
Washington joins Aviva from Neon – a specialist insurer operating within Lloyd’s. He served Neon for six years, most recently as its chief executive officer. He also previously worked at Ascot Underwriting, where he held a number of positions including as a director.
“I am delighted that Matthew will be joining Aviva, where he will bring a wealth of experience that will further strengthen our business and help drive the GCS strategy and deliver profitable growth. We welcome Matthew to Aviva,” commented Nick Major on Washington’s appointment.

Sharing its full-year financial results for 2021 earlier this month, Aviva posted gross written premiums of £8.8 billion (around CA$14.88 billion). The company also announced that it was acquiring the UK-based wealth management firm Succession Wealth for £385 million (around CA$651.4 million).
