Distracted driving is a growing and dangerous trend that leads to four million collisions in North America each year, putting significant strain on the insurance industry. In response to this, 670 auto dealerships all over Canada will encourage customers visiting over March to take a pledge against distracted driving, and auto insurance brokers are encouraged to alert their own clients to the initiative.

The 2016 Auto Dealers Against Distracted Driving campaign will see customers asked to make a promise not to drive while distracted, which includes using a mobile phone to call, text, or browse the Web, eating, and applying makeup. Customers and dealership employees can also submit their pledges online.

The campaign aims to inform drivers about simple solutions to resist driving distracted, such as pairing to a Bluetooth device and securing any potential distractions before driving.

"This is our second year participating in the campaign and we're hoping to build off of the great response we saw from our customers last year … We hope our campaign will encourage them to think twice before reaching for their phone while behind the wheel,” said Linda Thomas of Applewood Auto Group.

The number of dealerships participating in the campaign went up by around 50%. From last year’s 433, there are now 670 dealers supporting this advocacy.
